Polyquaternium are polymers that function as antistatic agents, film formers, and hair fixatives in cosmetic products. These ingredients are being used normally at concentrations up to 0,5 % but is also be used in higher concentrations up to 3%.
Those polymers are produced from natural, renewable cellulose containing resources, such as cotton or wood. Due to functionalization of the molecules with hydroxyethyl-groups and trimethyl ammonium groups water soluble quaternary ammonium salt with cationic properties are finally the result of the production process.
They are sold as white to off-white or slightly yellowish powder or granules.
